The Paul Martin Liberal Government: Working for Canada!!!!

This post will discuss how Paul Martin was able to accomplish key items during his term as Prime Minister. Please keep these accomplishments of the liberal party in mind when you head to the voting booth.

There is nothing minor about the achievements of the Paul Martin Liberal government. During the life of this minority government, we have launched new social programs, provided tax relief for Canadians, and promoted an independent foreign policy that makes Canada a leader in the world.

Key among the accomplishments the Paul Martin Liberal government has made are:

A Strong Economic Foundation

Building on the economic achievements of more than a decade of Liberal government, we have maintained strong growth in the Canadian economy, including eight consecutive balanced budgets, $61.4 billion shaved off the debt and provided more than $100 billion in tax cuts.

Under our government, the national unemployment rate fell to 6.6 per cent, the lowest rate in 30 years. In addition, average hourly wages have risen by 3.9 per cent over the past year, which is more than the 3.4 per cent year-over-year increase in inflation.

Sustainable, Universal Health Care

Our Liberal government is committed to strengthening national, universal health care in Canada. Our Canadian Public Health Care Protection Initiative will:
Ensure that any future dedicated health care funding investment will be solely for use within the public health care system;

Eliminate the practice of double-dipping by doctors; and
Track the patterns and activities within our health care system -so that when we act, we can act on the basis of facts and not politics.

Taken together with last year's Health Accord - our 10 year, $41 billion plan to strengthen public health care and its agreement to cut wait times for key medical procedures - the Liberal government is taking the most aggressive approach to protecting and enhancing public health care since the passage of the Canada Health Act.

A National Child Care Initiative

Canadians want a national early learning and child care program which will provide real choices for Canadian families. We are working with the provinces and territories to deliver this new funding and create new high-quality, affordable childcare spaces.

To date, 10 provinces have signed agreements that will help them meet their own unique needs for early learning and childcare programs. A new Liberal government will remain firmly committed to ensuring that families are able to make the choices that work for them.

New Deal for Cities and Communities

We recognize the key role Canada’s cities and communities play in helping Canadians achieve their goals and dreams. That is why we remain firmly committed to our New Deal for Cities and Communities, which transfers funds to Canadian municipalities to help address the infrastructure deficit and gives them a voice at the federal table.

In the past 18 months, we have signed agreements to share gas tax revenues have been with 12 provinces and territories across Canada and delivered a 100 per cent GST rebate to municipalities, which will amount to $7 billion in savings over the next 10 years for all municipalities.

Respecting our Environment

This government recognizes the importance of continuing to make investments to protect and preserve our rich inheritance of land, water and wildlife, as well as addressing the reality of global climate change.

Our “Project Green” initiative will cut greenhouse gas emissions while creating a stronger and more competitive economy. The plan includes more than $2 billion in tax and production incentives to increase the development of renewable power sources such as wind, small hydro and solar energy.

A Role of Pride and Influence in the World

Canada is recognized the word over as a strong and generous global citizen.
This Liberal government has worked hard to put in place the policies that will make sure our influence in the world continues to be a source of pride for Canadians.

We have committed to doubling our international assistance funding by 2010-11 from its 2001-02 level. We are also providing nearly $13 billion in new money for defence – the largest single increase in the last 20 years. This includes funding for some 8,000 extra Canadian Forces personnel, operational sustainability, and the acquisition of new equipment.

Building on the strong foundation of more than a decade of Liberal governments, Paul Martin’s Liberals have been able to promote initiatives that will benefit Canadians from all walks of life. By strengthening our social framework, protecting our environment, promoting fiscal policies that grow our economy and showing leadership on the global stage, the Liberal government is working for the Canada that Canadians want.

With all this stated, I would like you to realize that the Liberal party did alot for Canada and given a mandate we will alot more, please when you vote tommorow please vote for the Liberal party, thank you.

GO LIBERALS GO!!!!!!
