HARPER IS ALREADY A LIAR!!!
Well, it did not take long for the real George W Harper to be seen by the Canadian public. It seems the Conservatives who complained so much about Belinda crossing the floor and all the hoopla about banning crossing floor MPs, David Emerson you truly will not be left unquestioned during Question period and you will face the music.
On another side note, it seems that George W Harper has been promising all along during his election campaign to clean up government. This does not seem like a move that a Prime Minister who is willing to clean up government should condone.
Former Liberal industry minister David Emerson has crossed the floor to sit in Stephen Harper's Conservative cabinet. The Vancouver MP and former head of lumber giant Canfor stunned onlookers when he arrived at Rideau Hall shortly before the Tory cabinet was to be announced.
A short while later, he was sworn in as the new Conservative Minister of International Trade and the Minister responsible for the Olympic Games in Vancouver in 2010.
Snatching Emerson could be seen as Conservative retribution for the defection of Belinda Stronach to the Liberals in exchange for a cabinet post.
At the time, Harper harshly criticized Stronach and several Conservatives demanded laws forcing floor-crossers to go back to the electorate for another mandate.
New Democrat leader Jack Layton had some quick words of criticism, directed at both Emerson and Harper, at the surprise move.
Layton told CP that Harper's controversial decision to appoint a cabinet minister who was elected as a Liberal flies in the face of his election pledge to clean up government.
Layton also pointed out that on the day after the election, Emerson pledged he would be Harper's worst enemy.
And Layton said MPs who cross the floor to another party should be forced to return to their constituents for a by-election in order to remain in office.
Political analyst Joan Crockatt said Emerson's flip-flop does raise some ethical questions, as his riding elected him as a Liberal.
Many of Emerson's constituents were dismayed at the sudden change in loyalties.
John McNamee, Liberal riding secretary in Vancouver Kingsway riding, told CP that Emerson has no mandate from the people to sit as a Conservative.
"We all voted for him as a Liberal,'' McNamee said. "So we weren't given the opportunity to decide whether we wanted him as a non-partisan or as a Conservative candidate.''
